Farmer to lose at least 30 per cent of crops to floodwater

- A large chunk of the crops on a Bunbartha property are under water or in paddocks that will be too wet to harvest.
- John Stephens and his father David had to move 100 Holsteins they had agisted on the property to higher ground.
- The cows are now in a paddock close to David’s house, where they are being fed wrapped hay they baled last year.

Small communities punch above their weight

- Small villages and rural towns have been battling the floods in hastily organised emergency operations.
- Most were just local farmers and students who filled sandbags, co-ordinated transport and provided catering.
- Two of the communities north of Shepparton, Picola and Kaarimba, were visited by Country News on Friday, October 28.
