The Northo is throwing its support behind Farm Angels’ annual Flanno for a Farmer campaign.

The concept behind Flanno is to support farming families battling natural disasters, rising costs and financial hardship.

This is the second year Benalla’s North Eastern Hotel, better know to locals as The Northo, has run a Flanno fundraiser, which will take place on Friday, August 14.

The Northo’s Wayne ‘’Woodsie’’ Pappin said the timing of the fundraiser worked well with Benalla’s Farmers’ Day Out taking place at the Glasshouse the following day.

“We're raising money for all the farmers, local and Australia-wide, through things including a silent auction,” Woodsie said.

“Farm Angels are the main people running it and then we've got Travla Beer involved, they've been supporting it for three years now.

“This is our second year doing it. Last year we raised a fair bit of money, about $3500 to $4000. This year we want to try and get more.”

Travla Beer is owned by Australian actor Travis Fimmel, best known for his starring role in Vikings.

Travis has donated a signed Flanno to the Northo’s event – one of only six in existence.

It will be the main attraction in the silent auction held on the night.

“Unfortunately, Travis can’t be there, he’s over in Poland doing some filming,’’ Woodsie said.

“But we do have (State Member for Euroa) Annabelle Cleeland there.

“She’s going to be pouring some beers.

“We’ve got her working, she’ll also be involved in the silent auction.”

The event will run from 5pm to 10pm and will include a range of fun, fundraising activities.

“We're doing the silent auction again,” Woodsie said.

“We’ve been going around local businesses asking them to donate something.”

As always, in Benalla, the local community has come through and there are plenty of items in the silent auction.

“Rapid mobile systems Benalla have just donated a 20-litre drum of hydraulic oil,” Woodsie said.

“And Goodyear auto care have donated a voucher for one free service call out for a farmer.”

On top of all of that $2 from every pot, schooner and pint sold will go directly to Farm Angels.

“And Travla is donating 100 per cent of all proceeds on the night, through all the pubs they’ve got,” Woodsie said.

“And any Travla beer sold from any bottle shop.”

Woodsie said this was the exact type of fundraiser The Northo liked to support.

“I think its 14 farmers this year already who have lost their lives to suicide,” he said.

“That’s 14 too many. We know farmers are doing it tough.

“This is what we can do to help out. Even if the money helps just one farmer to live through another season, that’s what we’re about.

“So, come along and get involved, all you’ve got to do is wear your flannos.”
