Share the Dignity’s annual Dignity Drive campaign is under way, with Australian sports and media personalities rallying behind the push for menstrual equity.

The not-for-profit, founded in 2015 by Rochelle Courtenay after she learned homeless women were going without period products, has donated more than six million packets of period products nationwide.

This year’s campaign is described as the organisation’s most ambitious yet, amid growing demand for support across the country.

Footy legends Sam Thaiday and Corey Oates have joined media personality Christian Hull and Kip Wightman, among others, to back the drive.

Throughout August, the campaign calls on Australians to donate unopened period products at Woolworths supermarket collection points located across the nation.

Ms Courtenay said cost-of-living pressures were driving demand for donated products.

“The reality is many people are having to choose between putting fuel in the car to get to work or buying tampons and pads,” she said.

“For those already experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or severe financial hardship, they don’t have that choice at all — and that's who our donated products are primarily helping.”

Ms Courtenay said she hoped the drive would collect more than 200,000 period products nationwide.

“When people are missing work, school and everyday life because they don't have access to period products, it shows this is not just a personal issue, it's a national one. It's everyone's business,” she said.

The campaign is open to donors across both regional and metropolitan areas throughout the month.

“This is about dignity, fairness and participation,” Ms Courtenay said.

“We’re asking Australians to get behind this campaign, donate what they can and recognise that menstrual equity sits within every community.”
