Livsstil.

Yeah, you won’t know that word.

Because it’s not English.

It’s Swedish for lifestyle.

Then you have endurance.

Yes, that one is English.

Put them together and you have Livsstil Endurance, an Echuca-Moama fitness group headed by Kyabram’s Michael Lindeback (Swedish name courtesy of his grandfather).

‘Lifestyle endurance’ still doesn’t make much sense without context.

Which Lindeback provides, outlining the group’s aim.

“It’s about getting fit enough to just sign up for an event next weekend if you'd like to,” he said.

Most who attend are also members of the Echuca-Moama Triathlon Club.

Livsstil is an additional outlet for them to stay tri-ready.

Or just ready enough to wake up one morning and decide ‘today I might run a marathon’ — as you do.

“One of my mates just got so generally fit to the point where if there was a big trail run or ultra-marathon on the weekend he’d just say he’s going to go do it,” Lindeback said.

“I really love the idea of getting a base fitness where you can just talk to your mate, and if he’s doing an event, think to yourself, ‘My fitness is there, I'll just come and have a go’.”

The events aren’t always your standard marathons or triathlons, and some of the athletes would have to be among the region’s fittest.

Lindeback himself has competed in Ironmans — while also being vastly experienced in CrossFit and bodybuilding.

Recently, one of the group’s members, Matt Brooks, completed the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

His time of 10:22:34 was enough for 778th overall, and more impressively saw him finish third-best among Australian males in the 40-44 age category.

A couple of locals also featured at the recent GC50 Run Festival in Coolangatta two weeks ago — completing its staple 50km ultra.

You can see the benefit additional Livsstil sessions would have with so much on the triathlon-marathon calendar.

“There are just events all the time,” Lindeback said.

“There's a good bunch going up to the Noosa Triathlon and Sweat Vs Steam is in four weeks as well; there'll be a handful of us going to that.

“So there's lots happening and lots coming.”

But it’s not just about competition.

“A big part of it is the social side because not everyone's an athlete,” Lindeback said.

“It's very much coming down to have a chat and a run in a safe place.”

The free sessions take place every Tuesday morning at Jack Eddy Oval, starting at 6am.

Going off the CV mentioned above, you might label Lindeback a fitness freak — a description also appropriate because of his dedication to making it all possible.

He’s up at 5am on those mornings, driving from Ky to turn the lights on and pump the music, getting the vibe going for everyone’s fitness fix.

A fix which looks slightly different for each of the 20 or so who come out.

“Everyone runs at their own pace,” Lindeback.

“It's all time-based, so no-one gets left behind, and it's just around the 400-metre track.

“Some people jog, walk and talk while others will really rip in because they’re due to run a marathon the coming weekend, so we've got all sorts.”

Lindeback has also linked the group with Kyabram’s Riot Gym, assisting with training every second Wednesday.

And local businesses — and one as far as Geelong — have assisted Livsstil with the lighting costs at Jack Eddy, inspired by the value of what it provides to the community.
