Patrick Lavis has made a name for himself with his pace and flair on the football field, and now the Corowa-Rutherglen football young gun is preparing to take the next step in his career, heading west to join WAFL club Swan Districts.

The 21-year-old electrician has continued to develop over the past two seasons, becoming a regular contributor at senior level.

Now, with an opportunity to test himself at a higher level, Lavis hopes to take his of the tools the trade and apply them in Western Australia

“I always wanted to play to the highest standard I can,” he said.

“Whether that be VFL or WAFL, it is just a great opportunity to test it out.”

Roos coach, Sam Livingstone, who worked as an assistant coach last season, has watched Lavis' development closely and believes his explosive pace and attacking style will suit the WAFL.

“It's been a great ride watching him up close and personal,” Livingstone said.

“He's the modern-day footballer; he has blistering speed.”

Lavis' progress was also recognised with selection in the 2026 Ovens and Murray interleague squad that took on Bendigo League.

“It was a good opportunity and felt good to get picked in that,” he said.

The experience gave him the chance to test himself alongside some of the competition's best players and build connections beyond the Roos.

While Lavis' natural talent has already made him an exciting prospect, Livingstone believes consistency remains the next step in his development.

“He's got a lot of growth in the way he goes at his game,” Livingstone said.

“His playing ability, he's a real talent and he’s got that X-factor.”

Despite being one of the younger players on Corowa Rutherglen's senior list in 2026, Lavis established himself as a valued member of the playing group, bringing strong leadership qualities and building close relationships with his teammates.

Livingstone said those qualities were just as important as what he produced on the field.

“I think that's something that's underrated a lot, getting leaders that perform in different ways,” he said.

“He's really good with his friendships, and I think that's testament to his upbringing and where he's from.”

Football is a family affair for Lavis, with the young Roo continuing a proud connection to the club.

His father, Paul Lavis, played 75 senior games for Corowa Rutherglen during a successful period throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.

As he prepares to make the move west, Livingstone believes the style of football played in the WAFL will play to his strengths.

“I feel that the WAFL is best suited to Paddy's game,” Livingstone said.

“I think the wide-open grounds help, and it's full credit to him that he wants to better himself.

“I feel, it also speaks to our footy club, that we really strongly encourage boys to go and chase it and play at a higher level.”

Roos co-president Beau Longmire, who watched Lavis progress through the club's junior ranks, said the club was delighted to see the young footballer earn his opportunity.

“Paddy has been a highly valued member of our football program, and we are wrapped he has attracted the interest of multiple state league clubs,” Longmire said.

“He has a bright future, and we know he will give it his best shot at Swan Districts.”
