Three people have been issued banning notices from the Kyabram Woolworths following an incident on Sunday, July 19, after police responded to reports of an assault at the Union St supermarket.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 7pm.

Campaspe police said a male victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident but declined medical treatment from Ambulance Victoria and declined making a statement to officers.

No other customers or Woolworths team members were injured during the incident.

Campaspe police said it was alleged that the individuals involved in the incident were known to each other.

Security guards are currently on-site at Kyabram Woolworths to provide additional support.

“Following Sunday’s incident at our Kyabram store, our primary focus remains the safety and wellbeing of our customers, team and community, and we have offered support to those affected,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.

“There is no place for violence in our stores or our communities. We are continuing to work closely with local police as they conduct their investigation into the matter.

“We’ve been calling for more protections, specifically Workplace Protection Orders, to help keep our team safe at work.

“We welcome the Victorian Government’s move to bring in WPO legislation and increased penalties for those that participate in this type of behaviour, but we urge them (and other states and territories across the country) to pass this legislation as soon as possible.”

Police said two Kyabram men, aged 41 and 45, were arrested and charged with affray and intentionally causing injury.

Both men have been released on bail and are scheduled to appear at Echuca Magistrates’ Court.
